Qorokwe Camp
Okavango Delta, Botswana
READ PROJECT INFO +
The site lies next to a watercourse in the south eastern Okavango ,which is subject to flooding in the wet season . The units are lifted up off the land to provide views . Materials are chosen for rapid construction with a steel frame and infill panels of either mesh or canvas . Decks are timber ,with a detailed timber ceiling which is perforated to mimic the experience of being beneath the trees at the side of the watercourse - so that the entire lodge experience is understood as a gentle insertion in the experience of being in this landscape and the cycle of life. Deliberate canvas walls in the landscape evoke notional aspects of “boma” and protection and you are delivered via a courtyard experience , onto an elevated deck which provides protection , shade and aspect . This project was done in collaboration with Michele Throssel interiors , and is part of the Wilderness portfolio.
